In your first year, you'll be introduced to the core principles of architecture, including design thinking, architectural history, environmental responsibility, and fundamental skills in drawing and model-making. Through the module Experimental Design and Communication, you’ll explore creative processes and learn how to communicate ideas visually through sketching, modelling and digital tools. Construction and Environmental Fundamentals brings in an understanding of how design integrates with environmental systems, while Spatial Design develops your ability to design thoughtful architectural proposals that address real-world needs. Material Cultures and Histories gives context to your design work by exploring key moments in urban and architectural history. Meanwhile, Digital Skills 1 begins your journey in digital representation, complementing your manual skills with computer-based techniques.Your second year focuses on deepening your understanding of the tectonics of architecture and applying that knowledge to increasingly complex design challenges. In Urban Design and Communication, you’ll begin to engage with the scale of cities, exploring how urban environments evolve and how your design interventions can shape them. Residential Design allows you to test housing typologies in the context of public space, while Assembly and Environmental Systems builds your knowledge of structure, materials and sustainable technologies used in modern construction. Architectural and Cultural Critiques connects your design work to theory, helping you understand the cultural and historical forces that shape architecture. Digital Skills 2 enhances your ability to model, analyse and test design outcomes using advanced digital tools, enabling a more informed and environmentally responsible design process.In your final year, you'll bring together all the skills and knowledge you’ve gained in a comprehensive, research-driven design project. Comprehensive Design is the cornerstone of your final year, requiring you to develop and present a full architectural scheme that balances design quality with structural, environmental and constructional considerations. Design, Planning and Ethics places your work in the context of professional practice, helping you frame and justify your design decisions. Applied Construction and Environmental Sciences supports your technical development by encouraging rigorous application of environmental and structural strategies. Contemporary Debates and Research encourages critical thinking and personal reflection on the future of architecture, as you build a unique design philosophy. Finally, in the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Project, you’ll work with students from other built environment disciplines, simulating real-world project scenarios and exploring the collaborative nature of architectural practice.Altogether, the course prepares you to enter the architectural profession with a strong foundation in design, technology, sustainability, and critical thinking.
