COURSE CURRICULUM

The Applied Biosciences course provides a comprehensive education in the life sciences, covering essential concepts from the first year to the final year. In Year 1, students focus on fundamental subjects such as chemistry, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology, while developing essential laboratory skills. Successful completion of Year 1 leads to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Applied Biosciences. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding of advanced cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and microbiology. They also explore infectious diseases and the mechanisms behind morbidity and mortality, and gain practical skills in academic writing and data presentation. Successful completion of Year 2 leads to a Higher National Diploma (HND). The final year allows students to gain confidence in designing and conducting research projects, applying their knowledge to real-world problems. Key modules focus on the applications of biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, and pathophysiology. Students also undertake an independent research project, which involves experimental design, data collection, and analysis. Successful completion of the final year leads to a BSc (Hons) in Applied Biosciences. Throughout the course, students develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills relevant to the health and bioscience sectors, preparing them for careers in research, healthcare, and related fields.
