COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of this course, students gain a foundational understanding of engineering, focusing on areas like quality and metrology, manufacturing, electrical science, engineering materials, and manufacturing technology. Key modules include Engineering Materials and Manufacturing Technology, which covers material processes in industries like aerospace and automotive, and Mechanical Science and Mathematics, which focuses on solid mechanics and thermal analysis. Engineering Design introduces structured design processes, while Quality and Metrology develops an understanding of inspection principles. Other modules include Manufacturing Electrical Science, which teaches electrical circuit analysis, and Lean and Quality Manufacturing, which applies quality principles to manufacturing projects.In the second year, students deepen their knowledge in automation, robotics, and digital technologies. Modules like Automation and Robotics explore the role of these technologies in manufacturing environments, while the Automated Manufacturing Project critiques manufacturing systems and integrates advanced materials with automation. Digital Twins Integration for Cyber-physical Manufacturing introduces real-time monitoring and CNC machine programming, and Sustainability and the Product Lifecycle examines the environmental and management implications throughout a product's life cycle. Design Principles for Manufacturing explores tools used to support innovation in the design process.In the final year, students focus on advanced topics like supply chain management, lean systems, and emerging manufacturing technologies. Modules such as Lean Systems and Production Control teach methods to optimize manufacturing systems, while Emerging Manufacturing Technologies offers exposure to cutting-edge research in the field. The Individual Manufacturing Engineering Project Proposal and Professional Engineering module prepares students for their final dissertation, while Strategic Analysis and Supply Chain Management in Manufacturing examines operational excellence and new product development. The course culminates with a New Product Development Project, where students manage the introduction of a product into manufacturing, considering sustainability factors.
