COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of this civil engineering-focused degree, students are introduced to the foundational principles of engineering practice within a shared curriculum that encourages collaboration across related disciplines. Key modules such as Geotechnics and Construction Materials and Surveying and Transportation Engineering provide essential knowledge in soil mechanics, sustainable materials, and surveying techniques. Modules like Sustainable Environments and the Construction Project highlight the importance of sustainability, health and safety, and environmental considerations in the construction process. Additionally, students develop mathematical and analytical skills through Structural Analysis and Mathematics and apply civil engineering theory in practical scenarios through the Structural Engineering Design Project. This broad-based first year lays the groundwork for progression into more specialized areas in subsequent years.The second year builds on these fundamentals by deepening technical knowledge and introducing more complex concepts in civil engineering. Modules such as Hydraulics and Transportation Engineering and Structural Analysis and Design expand students' understanding of water systems, transportation infrastructure, and structural modeling using industry-standard software. Civil Engineering Design Project offers hands-on experience in solving real-world challenges, often linked to Sustainable Development Goals. Soil Mechanics and Materials enhances understanding of material behavior and soil strength, while Energy Project Management with EIA introduces project planning and environmental impact assessment processes. Through Sustainable Environments in Society, students analyze and critique sustainability initiatives, preparing them for professional practice with a strong sense of global responsibility.In the final year, students focus on applying their accumulated knowledge and skills to complex engineering problems and independent research. The Research Dissertation enables in-depth exploration of a specific civil or environmental engineering topic, encouraging analytical thinking and innovation. The Interdisciplinary Project promotes teamwork and integration of diverse engineering disciplines in a collaborative, project-based environment aligned with industry practices such as Building Information Management. Engineering Hydrology addresses real-world challenges like flooding and pollution by applying fluid mechanics and hydrological principles. Altogether, the final year prepares students for entry into the engineering profession by developing their technical expertise, research capabilities, and readiness for professional practice as Incorporated Engineers.
