COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the course, you’ll share a common curriculum with related degrees in automotive, mechanical, and motorsport engineering, giving you a strong foundation in core engineering principles. This shared structure means you can switch to a different course in the same stream after the first year, subject to progression requirements. You’ll study modules such as Mechanical Science, which covers fundamental principles needed in engineering, and Manufacturing Technology and Materials, which introduces various material types and industrial processes. Engineering Design develops structured approaches to problem-solving using industry-standard software, while Engineering Application offers hands-on experience in the design and analysis of products and systems. You’ll also build your mathematical capabilities in Engineering Mathematics and gain insight into Electrical and Electronic Engineering Principles, including circuit analysis and digital logic.In the second year, the course becomes more specialised, allowing you to deepen your knowledge in areas such as thermofluid mechanics, solid mechanics, and sustainability. You’ll explore the mechanics and dynamics of rigid bodies, stress analysis, and the principles of heat and fluid flow. Modules like Vehicle Systems and Development introduce vehicle technology and testing methods, while Design and Sustainability focuses on product innovation through real-world design challenges. Analytical Modelling equips you with essential tools to solve engineering problems, and Engineering Management develops your understanding of leadership, teamwork, and project execution within an engineering context.In your final year, you’ll consolidate your learning through advanced study in automotive product innovation, powertrain systems, vehicle dynamics, and aerodynamics. You’ll also undertake a significant individual project, developing skills in research, problem-solving, and technical communication. For MEng students, the final year includes further specialisation through additional modules like Engineering Strategy, Further Powertrain, and a dissertation project, using advanced tools like GT-Power and MATLAB. These experiences prepare you for a professional engineering career with real-world skills and industry insight.
