COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Public Health and Community Studies is designed to prepare students for impactful careers within health-focused sectors, addressing a range of social issues and inequalities. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in public health, communication, and community development. They explore key issues such as health inequalities, behaviour change, and the social determinants of health, while developing essential academic and decision-making skills. Completion of this year results in a Higher National Certificate (HNC).Year two expands on these foundations, encouraging students to critically examine how social divisions and institutions impact everyday life and health outcomes. Modules cover mental health, lifestyle trends, and health behaviours, as well as introducing research methods. Students explore sociological perspectives and assess current issues in mental health support and policy. Successful completion of this year leads to a Higher National Diploma (HND).In the final year, the focus shifts toward leadership, management and research in public health. Students engage with real-world challenges by exploring contemporary social policy, promoting health in communities, and analysing public health leadership strategies. They also conduct an independent research project, applying skills in critical analysis and community evaluation. This year helps students develop the practical and professional expertise required for leadership roles in health promotion and social care sectors.Upon graduating, students will be equipped to pursue roles in public health, local government, charities, education, or further postgraduate study. The degree offers both a theoretical and practical understanding of public health challenges and responses, supporting students in becoming change-makers within diverse communities.
