COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, the curriculum provides a broad foundation in history, politics, and international relations, preparing students for more specialized study in the second and final years. Modules include Ideas and Concepts that Shape the World, which introduces major themes guiding studies in history, politics, and international relations. Nations and Nationalism: From Unification to Annihilation explores the rise of nationalism and the nation-state, from the Atlantic Revolutions to modern issues like Brexit. The Making of the Globalised World examines how globalisation has transformed cultural, social, and economic realities. After Destruction: The World since 1945 focuses on key post-World War II developments in world politics, such as the Cold War, humanitarian interventions, and the rise of China. Power, People, and the State introduces political institutions and theories post-World War II, assessing their alignment with political practice. Freedom, Rights, and Democracy explores key political concepts and ideas underlying modern political systems and movements.In Year 2, students deepen their understanding with modules like Emerging Powers and Global Order, which examines the shifting global power dynamics as countries like China, India, and Brazil rise. The Far Right in Contemporary Europe explores the rise of far-right political parties in Europe and their influence. Making Humanities: Open Project offers a student-led research project to develop key research and employability skills. Political Thinkers: From Machiavelli to Marx traces the history of modern political thought, from classical to modern political thinkers. British Politics since 1997 evaluates the British political system and its relevance today. Making of the Modern United States: Race, Class and Gender investigates the social, cultural, and political forces shaping the United States. In the final year, students consolidate their learning and prepare for professional careers, with the option to undertake a final project in an area of interest.
