COURSE CURRICULUM

This creative practice course is designed to guide students through the development of both technical and conceptual skills, preparing them for a career in the creative industries. The first year provides a broad foundation, with modules that encourage students to experiment with ideas, materials, and techniques. Modules such as Inspiration and Processes help students generate ideas and develop practical skills, while Making and Play allow for experimentation and creative freedom. The Narrative and Audiences modules focus on developing ways to express ideas and communicate to different audiences, fostering critical thinking about the context and form of creative work. In the second year, the curriculum deepens students' engagement with culture, identity, and place, using visual culture to explore these themes. Students examine how identity is shaped by the environments they inhabit through the Culture and Place module, and critically analyze photographic and visual practices in Concepts and Approaches. Participation focuses on collaboration and community-driven work, while Post Digital Publishing looks at emerging practices in the digital era. Responsive Practice and Creative Collaboration encourage students to refine their narrative and teamwork abilities in response to real-world issues. The final year focuses on independent practice, research, and professional preparation. The Independent Practice: Exploration module allows students to develop a body of work that reflects their individual practice, supported by a critical rationale. The Independent Research module provides an opportunity to conduct original research, culminating in a substantial written project. Materials and Methods helps refine professional skills, while Professional Futures prepares students for the job market with portfolio development and career planning. Finally, Independent Practice Realisation expects students to produce a professional standard body of work, ready for the creative industry.
