COURSE CURRICULUM

This philosophy course offers a dynamic and engaging journey through key philosophical ideas, methods, and applications from a contemporary, inclusive, and creative perspective. The first year provides a solid foundation in core philosophical questions, methodologies, and ethical debates, blending traditional academic study with innovative, hands-on projects. Modules explore vast thematic questions in Life, the Universe and Everything, and introduce diverse schools of thought through A Hitchhiker’s Guide to Modern Philosophy. Students reflect on controversial thinkers in Thinkers on Trial and explore critical ethical dilemmas in areas like climate change and interspecies ethics. The year also supports skill-building through Philosophical Methods and culminates in a Creative Philosophy Project, encouraging students to express philosophical insights in imaginative formats. The second year allows for deeper engagement with contemporary social and political issues, including the logic of truth and misinformation in a post-truth society, explored in Alternative Facts. Students tackle global environmental thought in Ecophilosophies and Climate Justice, while Fierce Feminist Figureheads and Philosophy of Gender and Sexuality provide a critical lens on historical and current movements around identity and equality. Mediated Worlds addresses how media influences perception and thought, while Experience and Language digs into semiotics and the limits of interpretation. This year blends theoretical depth with a continued commitment to real-world relevance and philosophical activism. The final year offers a highly personalised learning experience with a selection of optional modules that enable students to shape their academic journey according to their interests and preferred modes of learning and assessment. Students can explore classical or radical topics, engage in creative or research-based assessments, and articulate their philosophical perspective in new and challenging ways. Whether through existential ethics, radical theory, or applied philosophy, students are encouraged to synthesise everything they’ve learned and prepare for life beyond the degree with critical insight, intellectual versatility, and a strong personal voice.
