COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law and Practice course provides a comprehensive understanding of English Law, with a focus on practical legal skills and core legal principles. The course is divided into three years, each building on the previous to prepare students for professional careers in law.Year 1 introduces the basic structure of English Law, including civil and criminal justice systems, property law, and contract law. Students will gain knowledge of key concepts such as constitutional principles, tort law, and alternative dispute resolution. Practical skills are developed through modules on advocacy, legal drafting, and interviewing, which are essential for legal practice.In Year 2, students deepen their understanding by exploring criminal law, dispute resolution, land law, and solicitor’s accounting. The focus shifts to the management of legal practice, including client care and the legal processes involved in civil litigation. Students also study the financial aspects of running a law firm, including business structures and accounting principles specific to solicitors.The final year expands on earlier learning by covering European Union law, business law, wills, and the administration of estates and trusts. Students are also required to complete a legal research dissertation, which develops their independent research skills and ability to present complex legal arguments. This year aims to refine students' professional abilities and prepare them for further professional development in the legal field.Upon successful completion of the course, students are awarded a Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Law and Practice after Year 1 and 2, respectively, and a BA (Hons) in Law and Practice after the final year. This course prepares students for a wide range of careers in legal practice, both in the UK and internationally.
