COURSE CURRICULUM
This interdisciplinary course in History, Politics, and International Relations offers a broad yet cohesive learning journey that begins with shared foundational studies and progresses toward advanced, specialised research. In the first year, students are introduced to the major ideas and events that have shaped the modern world, including nationalism, globalisation, post-war reconstruction, and the evolution of political systems. These modules help develop critical academic skills while providing an understanding of the historical and political forces that continue to influence global affairs. The second year builds on this foundation with more focused content that deepens your knowledge and analytical abilities. Students explore topics such as British espionage, the formation of modern America through race, class, and gender, and the complex international history of Europe. This year also includes a student-led research project, encouraging independent inquiry, creativity, and the development of transferable skills like problem-solving and communication. Throughout, you will engage with classic and contemporary political thought and examine the structures of British politics in a modern context. In the final year, students take full control of their academic direction by selecting optional modules that align with their personal interests and professional aspirations. Topics may include women’s lives in Britain and the United States, post-war Germany, and the emergence of environmental politics through the Green Movement. The final year is designed to consolidate the knowledge and skills developed over the course and to prepare students for a range of careers in public service, policy, journalism, education, and beyond, or for further postgraduate study. With its emphasis on critical thinking, independent research, and a global perspective, the course offers a well-rounded and intellectually stimulating experience that allows students to engage with some of the most pressing historical and political questions of our time.
