COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health and Social Care BSc (Hons) degree is designed to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to support health and social care delivery in various sectors. The course spans three years and covers a range of themes including individual and societal health, environmental influences, vulnerability, leadership, and global health issues.In Year 1, students are introduced to the foundations of health and social care. Modules explore the development of the UK healthcare system, contemporary health challenges, and the importance of inclusive and safe practices. Students study topics such as the changing nature of modern society, the impact of environmental factors on wellbeing, and community-based approaches to care. Upon successful completion, students are eligible for a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Health and Social Care.Year 2 builds on the knowledge from the first year by focusing on physical and psychological development across life stages, from conception to end of life. Students learn how to support vulnerable and marginalised groups in society, examine social policy in relation to mental health, and develop research skills necessary for academic and practical inquiry. This year also emphasizes the importance of collaborative care and safeguarding. Students who complete this stage are eligible for a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Health and Social Care.The final year explores global perspectives and leadership within the sector. Students study global health models, the role of interprofessional practice, and the management of communicable and non-communicable diseases. The year also focuses on leadership and management within healthcare settings. A final research project allows students to explore a specific issue of interest within the field, applying the skills and knowledge they have developed throughout the course. On completion, students are awarded the BSc (Hons) degree in Health and Social Care.
