COURSE CURRICULUM

This course provides a strong foundation in geography, combining human, physical and environmental topics. In Year 1, you'll explore fundamental themes such as landscapes, people and place, environmental issues and the role of global frameworks like the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Modules like A Changing Environment, Global Environmental Issues and Sustainable Environments examine real-world challenges, while Dynamic Landscapes introduces geological processes. You'll also build key skills in research and data analysis, including GIS, through the Research/Practical Toolkit.In Year 2, the course moves into more focused areas such as society and space, development in the Global South and climate change. You will deepen your understanding of urban design and resilient communities and continue to link theory with global goals. Practical experience is a key element, with a compulsory international field trip and a research module designed to prepare you for your final year dissertation. The Sustainable Environments in Society module allows you to explore real-life applications of sustainability.In the final year, you will apply advanced theoretical and research skills. Living on the Edge examines marginalisation and exclusion, while Shop 'til you Drop looks at global consumption and ethical alternatives. Your dissertation will demonstrate your independent research ability on a topic of your choice. Another international field trip supports Global and Comparative Field Studies, giving you the chance to carry out overseas field research and develop practical and critical skills.Overall, the course offers a balance of academic knowledge, fieldwork, and critical global awareness. It equips you with the tools to understand and address today’s most pressing geographical and environmental challenges, preparing you for careers in urban planning, environmental consultancy, humanitarian work, or further study.
