Key modules include Language, Literature and Writing Through Time, which introduces you to the history of language and literature, and Sounds, Words, Structure, Meaning: How English Works, which focuses on the structure and acquisition of the English language. Investigating Film explores the history and techniques of film, while Writing for Online, Social, and Print Media introduces you to modern journalistic writing across multiple platforms, emphasizing digital fluency and social media marketing. Literary Locations: Representing Space and Place examines the theories of spatiality in literature, while the Group Project for Local Impact gives you the opportunity to apply your skills in a community setting, promoting positive social change.In Year 2, you will build on the foundation set in Year 1 and develop more specialized knowledge in areas like Shakespeare, gender and sexuality, and 21st-century literature. Modules such as Shakespeare’s Renaissance will allow you to explore Shakespeare’s influence, while Age of Revolutions: from Milton to Romanticism covers the literature of the 18th century, examining the relationship between the rise of the novel and capitalism. Philosophies of Gender and Sexuality introduces you to key debates on gender and sexuality, and Victorians and Empire focuses on the impact of empire on British literature. Modernisms and Postmodernisms explores 20th-century literature, while 21st Century Literature introduces you to contemporary works addressing global issues like environmentalism and multiculturalism.In the final year, you will consolidate your learning and focus on preparing for the professional world. The compulsory module Reading #BlackLivesMatter explores how contemporary authors contribute to racial activism through literature. Additionally, you will choose optional modules to tailor your studies to your interests, culminating in a large final project, supported by a mentor, to showcase your academic abilities and professional preparedness.
