COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Development and Learning focuses on providing students with a deep understanding of childhood development from a theoretical and practical perspective. In the first year, students are introduced to key concepts in childhood development, such as the factors influencing learning and development, including individual needs and environmental factors. Modules like Collaborative and Inclusive Relationships, Promoting Children's Health, Wellbeing and Safety, The Child, the Family, and the Community, and Learning and Development Through Play aim to develop essential skills in creating inclusive, supportive environments that promote children's learning and safety. By the end of the first year, students will have earned a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Early Childhood Development and Learning.The second year builds on this foundation by examining early childhood pedagogy and global practices. Modules such as Early Years Pedagogy and Practice, Theoretical Perspectives on Child Development, Sustainability in the Early Years, and Undertaking Research in the Early Years focus on evaluating different teaching methods, understanding developmental theories, and researching early years practices. Students will also explore the role of sustainability in early childhood education. By completing this year, students will be eligible for a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Early Childhood Development and Learning.In the final year, students delve into international perspectives on childhood, effective leadership, inclusion, and managing diverse environments. Modules like International Perspectives of Childhood, Effective Leadership and Management of an Early Years Environment, Inclusion, Equality and Diversity, and a Research Project enable students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings, critically analyze issues like poverty, gender, and ethnicity, and develop the leadership skills necessary for managing early years settings. Successful completion of the final year awards a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Development and Learning, preparing students for roles in education, leadership, and policy development in early childhood settings.
