COURSE CURRICULUM

The criminology course is structured across three years, with a common first year that allows students to work alongside peers from related disciplines such as criminology and law, and criminology and psychology. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in crime, criminal behavior, justice, and law in a global context. The modules include investigative practice, criminal behavior, criminal justice, crime typologies, forensic mental health, and legal approaches to crime, all designed to provide a thorough grounding in criminology, investigative methods, and legal systems. In the second year, students dive deeper into specialized topics such as youth crime, policing, victimology, and cybercrime. They also begin preparing for their final year research project, acquiring practical research skills and theoretical knowledge about criminological issues. Modules like researching crime, victims and victimology, cybersecurity and crime prevention, youth crime and justice, and punishment and control offer an opportunity to critically analyze and explore contemporary issues in criminology. In the final year, students focus on specialized areas such as global organized crime, rehabilitation in criminal justice, state crime and corruption, and deviant leisure. They also undertake an independent research project, applying their knowledge to a topic of interest. This structure allows students to build expertise in specific areas of criminology, preparing them for a range of careers in law enforcement, policy, research, and social justice fields. The course offers a balanced approach, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills, and encourages critical thinking about crime and justice in a rapidly changing global landscape.
