COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, the course features a common first year, offering students the opportunity to collaborate with peers from Criminology, Criminology and Law, and Criminology and Psychology. This common foundation allows for an interdisciplinary approach to studying crime, criminal behavior, justice, and law in a global context. Key modules like Investigative Practice, Criminal Behaviour, Criminal Justice, Crime Typologies, Forensic Mental Health, and Legal Approaches to Crime will introduce students to foundational criminological concepts, crime classifications, criminal law, and the intersection of mental health with crime. These modules provide theoretical insights and practical skills to analyze crime from diverse perspectives.Year 2 focuses on deepening students' understanding of crime and criminal justice, introducing topics like forensic psychology, victimology, policing, and punishment. Modules such as Researching Crime, Victims and Victimology, Perspectives in Forensic Psychology, Forensic Psychology in Context, Policing and Society, and Punishment and Control help students explore crime research methodologies, victimization experiences, psychological factors in criminal behavior, and the role of policing and punishment in society. These modules build on Year 1 knowledge and provide the skills necessary for more advanced criminological analysis.In the final year, students specialize in areas like global organized crime, rehabilitation in criminal justice, and criminal advocacy. Modules such as Global Organised Crime, Rehabilitation and Criminal Justice, and Criminal Advocacy allow students to delve deeper into contemporary issues like transnational crime, criminal rehabilitation, and legal defense strategies. The Research Project in Criminology gives students the chance to conduct independent research on a topic of interest, further honing their analytical and research skills. By the end of the program, students will have gained comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to pursue careers in the criminal justice field.
