COURSE CURRICULUM
In Year 1, the course offers a common first year, allowing students to work alongside peers from Criminology, Criminology and Law, and Criminology and Psychology. This collaborative approach helps broaden knowledge and understanding of crime, criminal behavior, justice, and law in a global context. Students will engage with subjects from different perspectives and develop critical thinking, particularly regarding crime from legal and moral viewpoints. Key modules include Investigative Practice, Criminal Behaviour, Criminal Justice, Crime Typologies, Forensic Mental Health, and Legal Approaches to Crime. These modules provide foundational knowledge in crime investigation, criminal behavior theories, criminal justice systems, crime classification, and the intersection of mental health with crime. In Year 2, the focus shifts to deepening knowledge of crime and criminal justice. Modules like Researching Crime, Victims and Victimology, Criminal Law, Practical Legal Skills, Policing and Society, and Punishment and Control help students explore victimology, key criminal law concepts, legal skills, policing practices, and punishment theories. These courses equip students with research skills and provide practical insights into the roles and challenges within the criminal justice system. In the final year, students apply the knowledge gained in specialized areas such as Global Organised Crime, Rehabilitation and Criminal Justice, Criminal Advocacy, Law of Evidence, and a Research Project in Criminology. These modules focus on global criminal organizations, rehabilitation programs, advocacy in criminal law, and the law of evidence, with an emphasis on real-world application. The Research Project in Criminology allows students to independently research a crime-related topic, preparing them for careers in criminal justice and related fields. This final year fosters both theoretical and practical expertise, preparing students for professional roles in the criminal justice system.
