COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Acting course offers a progressive, practice-based training designed to prepare students for a wide range of performance careers across stage, screen, and digital platforms. In the first year, students build foundational skills in acting through modules that focus on voice, movement, characterisation, and working with performance spaces. The Actor’s Toolkit introduces essential techniques for live and digitised media, while other modules explore devising original performances, understanding performance technologies, and situating the actor within broader creative communities. Students also learn about cultural industries and the value of the arts within societal contexts. The second year deepens these skills through performance opportunities that apply training in a wider variety of contexts. Modules cover classical and experimental forms, including global interpretations of Shakespeare and acting for camera, alongside contextual studies that connect theory with practice. Students collaborate with peers from other disciplines in creative projects and explore emerging performance forms such as immersive and site-specific work. Professionalism, peer learning, and industry engagement begin to take stronger focus here. In the final year, students refine their artistic identity and prepare for careers in the creative industries. Advanced modules continue to build voice and screen acting techniques, with projects that simulate professional film and stage environments. Students are encouraged to explore their own career paths through workshops, industry talks, and guided career development sessions. The course culminates in a Final Project where students devise and present substantial creative work, collaborating across disciplines to showcase their abilities in a professional context. The curriculum balances technical acting skills with critical analysis, cultural awareness, and real-world application, helping students emerge as well-rounded, reflective performers ready to enter a competitive and evolving industry.
