COURSE CURRICULUM

The MScD in Orthodontics is structured as a three-year program designed to provide progressive clinical and academic training, preparing students to become specialist orthodontists. In the first year, students focus on building foundational skills through core modules including written and oral examinations, clinical assessments, research review, and general orthodontic practice. These modules are designed to introduce essential theoretical knowledge, practical assessment techniques, and early clinical experience under supervision. The second year builds on this foundation, with continued development of clinical competencies, research appraisal, and more advanced written and oral examinations. Students deepen their understanding of clinical orthodontic procedures, engage in structured appraisals, and develop proficiency in both basic and general orthodontic practice, while maintaining a focus on evidence-based research. The third year consolidates clinical and academic expertise, with students completing rigorous written and oral assessments, advanced clinical examinations, and the MScD research components, including submission and defence of a literature review and thesis. The integration of practical clinical training with research and evaluation throughout all three years ensures that graduates are competent in both the theory and practice of orthodontics. By the end of the program, students are equipped with advanced clinical skills, strong research capabilities, and the professional competence required to practice as specialist orthodontists and contribute to the advancement of the field.
