COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of this program offers a comprehensive selection of core and optional modules designed to build a strong foundation in wireless, microwave, and high-frequency engineering. The core modules provide 150 credits and cover a broad range of essential topics. "Software Tools and Simulation" introduces students to modern simulation environments and tools, while "RF Circuits Design and CAD" focuses on radio frequency circuit development using computer-aided design techniques. "Research Study" equips students with the necessary skills to undertake technical investigations and critical analysis, preparing them for their dissertation. "Advanced Communication Systems" explores the latest developments in digital and wireless communications, and "HF and RF Engineering" deepens understanding of high-frequency circuit principles and applications. "Advanced CAD, Fabrication and Test" integrates practical and theoretical knowledge of circuit design, fabrication processes, and testing methods. The "Microwave and Millimetre-Wave Integrated Circuit Design and Technology" module introduces students to the specific challenges and solutions in high-frequency integrated circuits. Additionally, "Micro- and Nano-engineering" covers the principles and technologies used in miniaturised systems and devices. The year culminates in a 60-credit "Dissertation (Electronic)," where students independently explore a specialised topic through original research. In addition to the core modules, students can tailor their studies by choosing from a range of optional 10-credit modules, allowing them to align their learning with personal interests or career goals. Options include "High Frequency Device Physics and Design," which explores the underlying physics of electronic components; "VLSI Design," focusing on the architecture and implementation of integrated circuits; "High Frequency Electronic Materials," which examines materials used in RF and microwave applications; "Optoelectronics," studying devices that operate at the intersection of optics and electronics; and "High Frequency Power Amplifiers," which delves into the design and optimisation of amplifiers for high-frequency use. This structure ensures both depth and flexibility in students’ academic experience.
