The MSc Urban and Regional Development program offers a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students to critically understand and influence the economic, spatial, and social transformation of cities and regions. Urban and Regional Development in Practice introduces students to real-world applications of policy and planning, offering insight into how development strategies are formulated and implemented. Urban and Regional Economies explores the structural and dynamic forces shaping city and regional growth, including globalisation, technological change, and spatial inequality. Governing Urban and Regional Dynamics examines the governance frameworks and policy tools used to manage change across different spatial scales, from local to global. The Research Methods module equips students with practical skills in data collection, analysis, and interpretation, essential for both academic research and professional roles. A 60-credit Dissertation allows for in-depth investigation into a topic of personal or professional interest, fostering critical thinking and original research.Students can tailor the course to their interests through a range of optional modules. Planning and Real Estate focuses on land-use strategies and property development. Planning City Futures engages with urban innovation and strategic visioning. Planning for Sustainability addresses environmental and climate challenges in planning practice. Renewable Energy Development and Planning explores the integration of green energy into spatial development, while Digital Planning and Development introduces emerging digital tools and methods reshaping urban governance and policy design. Together, these modules enable students to specialise in areas aligned with current urban challenges and opportunities.Graduates of this program will possess the theoretical knowledge and applied skills needed to influence and lead in areas such as urban policy, regional planning, sustainability, and economic development.
