COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy provides students with a comprehensive understanding of environmental challenges and equips them with the skills to develop and implement effective sustainability policies. In the first year, students engage with core modules that cover environmental policy and climate change, exploring the impact of policy decisions on environmental outcomes and climate resilience. They also study the principles and practices of environmental governance, examining the frameworks, institutions, and regulatory mechanisms that guide sustainable development. Research methods are a key component, preparing students to undertake rigorous, evidence-based analysis and develop the skills necessary for independent investigation. The program culminates in a dissertation, allowing students to apply their knowledge to a focused research project and demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving, and practical application skills. Optional modules enable students to tailor their learning to specific interests, with topics including environmental management, planning for sustainability, urban and regional development in practice, sustainable food systems, sustainable transport policies, renewable energy development and planning, and urban and regional economies. Through this combination of core and optional modules, students develop a deep understanding of sustainability theory and practice, preparing them for careers in policy development, planning, consultancy, research, and other roles where they can address pressing environmental and sustainability challenges effectively.
