COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the MSc in Medical Education is structured to provide healthcare professionals with a comprehensive foundation in educational theory, research, and practice. Core modules are designed to develop practical teaching skills while fostering an understanding of how to enhance learning in clinical environments. Learning and Teaching in Clinical Education (MET963, 20 credits) introduces pedagogical principles, methods, and strategies specific to healthcare settings, while Educational Media and Technologies (MET964, 20 credits) explores the use of digital tools and multimedia to support effective learning. Evaluating Courses (MET966, 20 credits) equips students with the skills to critically assess educational programs and improve their quality and impact. Educational Research Skills (MET967, 20 credits) focuses on developing the ability to design, conduct, and interpret research in medical education, underpinning evidence-based practice. Medical Education and Professional Development (MET968, 20 credits) encourages reflective practice and the integration of educational theory with professional growth, and Assessment of Learning (MET992, 20 credits) provides an understanding of methods for evaluating learner performance and competency. The Dissertation (MET970, 60 credits) forms the major component of the program, enabling students to undertake independent research, apply educational theory to practical contexts, and contribute to innovations in healthcare education. Collectively, these modules prepare graduates to become effective, reflective, and research-informed educators in clinical and healthcare settings.
