COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Engineering Net Zero focuses on equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required to address climate change and achieve a net zero society by 2050. The program combines engineering, science, and sustainability principles to enable graduates to transform high-carbon systems and develop low-carbon technologies across infrastructure, energy, and industrial sectors. Core modules cover the relationship between Earth and society, strategies to reduce carbon footprints, principles of decarbonisation, and hands-on projects in decarbonisation design and research, culminating in a comprehensive dissertation that applies technical knowledge to real-world challenges. Students gain expertise in evaluating environmental impacts, designing low-carbon solutions, and conducting research that integrates scientific, technical, and societal considerations. A wide range of optional modules allows students to tailor their learning to specific interests, including environmental fluid mechanics, policy and regulation, advanced power systems, risk management, alternative and renewable energy technologies, energy management, flood design, waste management, sustainable transport, and building information modelling. By combining theoretical understanding with practical application, students develop problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills that enable them to implement sustainable solutions effectively. Graduates are prepared to lead interdisciplinary teams, influence policy, and drive technological innovation, ensuring they are capable of contributing meaningfully to the global transition toward a low-carbon and sustainable future.
