COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Electrical Energy Systems provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to address the challenges of modern energy networks. Core modules cover a broad spectrum of advanced topics, including research methods, high voltage technology, risk and hazard management, power electronics and drives, and alternative energy systems. Students also study magnetic devices, distributed generation, power system protection, power systems analysis, and smart grids, culminating in a substantial dissertation project that consolidates learning and applies it to practical or research-based problems. The program emphasizes the integration of renewable energy sources into transmission and distribution networks and prepares graduates to work with intelligent, low-carbon energy systems. Optional modules offer additional specialization in areas such as condition monitoring, systems modelling and forecasting, energy management, and energy studies, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career aspirations. Throughout the course, students develop both theoretical understanding and practical skills, gaining expertise in system design, regulation, and the implementation of smart and active network devices.
