COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Data-Intensive Physics equips students with the knowledge and skills required to pursue careers in academic research, technical development, and applied physics roles across a range of scientific fields. The program combines a strong foundation in physics with advanced computational and data science techniques, enabling students to tackle complex problems and analyse large datasets. Core modules cover applied and principles of machine learning, data science, advanced techniques in physics and astrophysics, research project work, and advanced study and research skills, providing both theoretical understanding and practical experience. Students also have the opportunity to select optional modules to deepen their expertise in specialized areas, such as low dimensional semiconductor devices, quantum statistical mechanics, laser physics and nonlinear optics, advanced particle physics, theoretical physics, quantum theory of many-particle systems, advanced general relativity and gravitational waves, numerical relativity and waveform modelling, and observational gravitational wave astronomy. A key component of the program is the research project, which allows students to apply their learning to a substantive investigation, often involving real-world data or cutting-edge physics problems. By integrating physics knowledge with data-intensive approaches, graduates develop the skills needed to succeed in research-focused roles, industry, and interdisciplinary scientific careers, meeting the increasing demand for expertise in computational and data-driven physics.
