COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Computational Methods in Architecture provides students with a comprehensive foundation in advanced computational design techniques and digital fabrication, combining architectural knowledge with programming and engineering principles. Core modules include Architectural Science Research, which develops the ability to conduct rigorous, research-informed design investigations, and Introduction to 3D Modelling and Parametric Design, which equips students with essential digital modelling skills. Computational Form Finding and Algorithmic Design Thinking focus on advanced methods for exploring innovative design solutions through parametric and generative approaches. Python for Computation develops programming skills relevant to architectural analysis and design automation, while Computational Design for Fabrication bridges the gap between digital models and practical construction processes. The program culminates in a dissertation, providing an opportunity to apply computational techniques to a self-directed research project that demonstrates both technical proficiency and creative insight. Optional modules allow further specialisation, covering areas such as Low Carbon Buildings, Investigation of the Built Environment, Data Visualisation, Dynamics, and Building and Infrastructure Information Modelling, enabling students to tailor their learning to their career goals. Graduates of this program acquire the skills and interdisciplinary perspective necessary to innovate in architectural design, research, and professional practice, with a strong emphasis on integrating computational methods into real-world creative and technical challenges.
