COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Computational and Data Journalism equips students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the evolving landscape of digital journalism. Core modules provide a foundation in computational thinking, programming, and data journalism, alongside practical training in reporting, digital investigation, and the completion of a substantial dissertation project. These modules are designed to develop both technical and journalistic competencies, ensuring students can gather, analyse, interpret, and communicate data-driven stories effectively across multiple platforms. Options include human-centric computing, data visualisation, and social computing, which strengthen analytical and technical skills, as well as modules like In the Editor's Chair, Citizen Media: Digital Storytelling, Communicating Causes, Datafied Society, and Short Form Video Production, which focus on storytelling, audience engagement, and media production. Through this combination of core and elective modules, students gain a balance of theoretical understanding and practical experience, preparing them to meet the demands of modern newsrooms.
