COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Compound Semiconductor Physics offers a structured program combining core and optional modules to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical experience in semiconductor theory, fabrication, and applications. Core modules include a substantial research project, training in compound semiconductor fabrication, advanced semiconductor device photonics, advanced techniques in physics and astrophysics, and study and research skills, ensuring students gain both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience. Optional modules allow further specialisation and cover topics such as high frequency device physics and design, optoelectronics, micro- and nano-engineering, LabVIEW programming, computational physics, commercialising innovation, low dimensional semiconductor devices, physics and reality, science communication, quantum statistical mechanics, laser physics and non-linear optics, data science, electromagnetic radiation detection, quantum theory of many-particle systems, optical semiconductor device modelling, and gravitational-wave detectors. This broad selection enables students to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals, whether in research, development, or industrial roles.
