COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Civil Engineering program includes a comprehensive selection of core and optional modules designed to strengthen advanced engineering knowledge and technical expertise. Core modules provide essential skills in key areas such as Numerical Techniques in Civil Engineering, Professional Engineering Studies and Environmental Fluid Mechanics, along with specialist knowledge in Steel Structures, Advanced Structural Mechanics and FE Theory and Practice. The Engineering Case Study module offers practical, real-world problem-solving experience, helping students apply theoretical concepts to industry-based scenarios. The program culminates in a substantial 60-credit dissertation, allowing students to conduct independent research in their chosen civil engineering specialism, such as structural, geoenvironmental or water engineering. Optional modules enable further customisation of study pathways, with choices such as Dynamics, Sediment Transport Dynamics, Theoretical Soil Mechanics, Structural Engineering and Coastal and Estuarine Engineering. These options allow students to tailor their learning to their career ambitions and deepen their expertise in particular fields. Together, these modules provide a balanced combination of technical training, analytical skill development and applied research experience, preparing graduates for advanced professional roles within the civil engineering sector.
