COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules in the first year of the MSc in Children’s Psychological Conditions provide a structured foundation in research, assessment and the scientific understanding of childhood psychological difficulties. Research Design and Statistics 1 and 2 develop essential skills in research methodology and data analysis, preparing students to interpret empirical findings and conduct independent research. Origins of Developmental Psychopathology examines the early development of emotional and behavioural disorders, exploring biological, psychological and social risk factors. Introduction to Clinical and Educational Psychology offers insight into the professional frameworks, roles and practices within these key applied disciplines. Child Assessment Methods 1 and 2 provide hands-on training in tools and techniques used to assess children’s cognitive, emotional and behavioural functioning, supporting informed diagnosis and intervention planning. The modules Neurodevelopmental Conditions 1: Neurobiology and Neurodevelopmental Conditions 2: Cognition and Emotion explore the neurological and psychological foundations of conditions such as autism, ADHD and learning difficulties, emphasising brain development and associated emotional and cognitive processes. The program concludes with a substantial independent dissertation project, worth 60 credits, allowing students to undertake original research in a specialist area of interest. Together, these modules build strong analytical, practical and professional skills for careers and further training.
