COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules in the Chemistry MSc program are designed to provide advanced postgraduate training, preparing students for professional scientific careers or further research. Key Skills for Postgraduate Chemists equips students with essential practical and academic abilities needed for advanced study and workplace success, including data analysis, scientific writing and laboratory competence. Application of Research Methods focuses on developing critical evaluation skills and advanced research techniques used in modern chemical investigation. The Colloquium module encourages engagement with contemporary research topics, enabling students to analyse and debate cutting-edge developments within the chemical sciences. The Research Project is a substantial component in which students undertake an independent research study under expert supervision, allowing them to contribute to original scientific inquiry and build strong laboratory and analytical experience. Students can tailor their learning by selecting from a wide range of optional modules exploring specialist areas of chemistry. These include drug discovery and development modules such as Techniques in Drug Discovery, Drug Targets, Drug Development from Laboratory to Clinic and Drug Discovery Chemistry, alongside scientifically applied subjects such as Biocatalysis for a Sustainable Future, Metals in Medicine and Bioimaging, Molecules for Health and Life, Modern Materials and Catalysis and Interfaces for Sustainable Chemistry. These options support diverse career pathways in pharmaceutical science, sustainable chemistry, biotechnology and advanced material innovation.
