COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the MSc Advanced Mechanical Engineering program, students complete 120 credits comprising three core modules and a selection of optional modules. The core modules—Advanced Mechanical Engineering Group Research Study, Advanced Mechanical Engineering Case Study, and Advanced Mechanical Engineering Project—are designed to develop a strong foundation in research, problem-solving, and practical application of mechanical engineering principles. The group research study encourages collaborative investigation of engineering challenges, while the case study module provides the opportunity to analyse real-world industrial problems and propose innovative solutions. The project module allows students to undertake an in-depth individual investigation, applying advanced engineering knowledge and demonstrating creativity, initiative, and technical competence. Alongside these core modules, students can choose from a variety of optional modules to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. Options include Measurement Systems, Manufacturing Informatics, Tribology, Artificial Intelligence, Control, Quality and Reliability, Finite Element Methods, Risk and Hazard Management in the Energy Sector, Condition Monitoring, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Energy Management, and Advanced Robotics. These modules provide practical and theoretical insights into specialized areas of mechanical engineering, equipping students with the technical expertise and interdisciplinary skills needed to address complex engineering challenges, innovate in industry, and prepare for advanced research or professional careers.
