COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Occupational Therapy is structured over two years, combining taught modules with an independent research dissertation. In the first year, students complete three core modules, each worth 30 credits, covering Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy Theory and Application (HCT236), The Art and Science of Occupational Therapy (HCT342), and Research Methods and Data Analysis in Healthcare (HCT343). These modules provide a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, emphasising evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and the application of research to improve patient care. In addition to the core modules, students select one optional module (30 credits), allowing them to tailor their studies to individual professional interests and career goals. The first year thus totals 120 credits of taught content, combining academic study with practical and professional development. In the second year, students focus on the dissertation, choosing from three options, each worth 60 credits: an Empirical Dissertation (HCT117), a Work-Based Project (NRT079), or a Systematic Review of the Literature (NRT080). This dissertation component enables students to conduct in-depth research in an area of occupational therapy that aligns with their interests, consolidating their knowledge and skills while preparing them for professional practice or further academic study in the field.
