COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Welsh Government and Politics offers students a focused and in-depth study of governance, policy, and political processes in Wales within the context of devolution. In the first year, students complete core modules in Devolution and Public Policy in Wales and a dissertation, which together provide the foundation for understanding the structure, functioning, and impact of Welsh governance. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests, including constitutionalism and governance, the law of devolution, European law and governance, public policy, government and policy-making in Britain, and contemporary Welsh politics. These modules offer insight into the institutions, political behavior, and current issues shaping Wales, as well as the broader UK and European contexts. The program emphasizes the development of analytical and research skills, enabling students to critically evaluate political systems, policy-making processes, and the relationships between various levels of governance. By engaging with both theoretical and practical perspectives, students gain a comprehensive understanding of the emerging Welsh polity, its historical and cultural context, and the challenges and opportunities of shared sovereignty. Graduates are equipped to pursue careers in public service, policy analysis, research, and other professional roles in governance and political studies.
