COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and Public Policy MA is structured to provide students with a thorough understanding of governance, policymaking, and political analysis at multiple levels. In the first year, core modules include Public Policy, Government and Policy-Making in Britain, Themes and Debates in Political Research, and a Dissertation. These modules equip students with essential knowledge of policy processes, the structure and functioning of government institutions, and the theoretical and methodological tools needed for independent research. The dissertation allows students to apply their analytical skills to a chosen topic, demonstrating mastery of research methods and critical thinking. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialise in areas of particular interest, such as European Law and Governance, the Ethics of Public Policy, Global Environmental Politics, Ministers at Work, and contemporary issues in Welsh politics including institutions, political behaviour, and devolution. This flexibility allows students to tailor their studies to regional, national, or global contexts. The program emphasises the development of transferable skills, including research, communication, and analytical abilities, preparing graduates for careers in government, public administration, policy analysis, consultancy, and related fields. By combining theoretical frameworks, applied research, and engagement with current political issues, the program fosters informed and reflective practitioners capable of contributing effectively to public policy and governance.
