COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Global Heritage provides students with a thorough understanding of heritage in a global context, focusing on both tangible and intangible aspects. Core modules introduce key concepts and practices, including the management and interpretation of cultural heritage across diverse local, national, and international contexts, while offering research methods and practical skills essential for academic and professional work in the field. Students explore the ways heritage is preserved, presented, and engaged with, considering global debates around sustainability, decolonisation, human rights, and the impacts of conflict and climate change. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests, including community engagement, museum collection care, visual and cultural histories, international cultural policy, and the future of museums as global institutions. The program also offers opportunities to undertake a dissertation, with or without a placement, providing hands-on experience in heritage research and practice. Delivered by staff with expertise across arts, humanities, and social sciences, the course integrates research-led teaching with practical insights, drawing on Wales’ rich cultural resources. Graduates emerge with the knowledge, skills, and critical understanding needed to pursue careers in heritage management, policy, research, museums, or related professional sectors, equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the global heritage landscape.
