COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Digital Media and Society equips students with the knowledge and skills to critically examine the rapidly evolving digital landscape and its societal implications. Core modules cover essential areas such as research application, understanding digital media, debates and concepts in media and communications, and exploring the datafied nature of society, culminating in a project-based dissertation that develops independent research and practical skills. Students learn to analyse how digital platforms shape political, social, and cultural behaviour, and how users, businesses, and governments interact within these spaces. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to their interests, offering subjects such as social media and politics, electoral behaviour, media and political understanding, public relations, citizen media and storytelling, short form video production, and the study of gender, sexuality, and digital culture. By combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on, project-based learning, the program fosters critical thinking, research competence, and practical digital skills. Students gain insight into the ethical, social, and political challenges posed by digital technologies and acquire the ability to evaluate and respond to these issues in professional, academic, or policy-oriented contexts. Graduates are prepared for careers in media, communications, digital consultancy, research, policy development, and other sectors where understanding and leveraging digital media is essential.
