COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Creative Writing provides a structured yet flexible environment for students to develop their creative abilities, deepen their understanding of literary craft, and explore their authorial voice. Core modules focus on practical and research-based learning, beginning with Genre Explorations and Pathways, which allows students to engage with prose, poetry, and drama while producing substantial creative work. This is complemented by Genre Specialisms, where students concentrate on their chosen form to refine techniques and develop a distinctive style. The Writing Industry module equips students with skills to showcase their work professionally, providing insight into publication, promotion, and engagement with the creative sector. Research and Process in Creative Writing enhances critical thinking, encouraging students to reflect on their creative practices, understand literary contexts, and integrate research into their projects. Optional modules, such as Teaching Creative Writing, Neo-Victorian Metatextualities, and The Feminist Incomplete, offer opportunities to extend knowledge into specific areas of interest, enabling students to tailor their learning to career or academic goals.
