COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the Solicitors Practice Course are structured to support students in meeting the requirements for qualifying as solicitors in England and Wales. The course begins with two major modules focused on SQE1: Functioning Legal Knowledge 1 (FLK1) and Functioning Legal Knowledge 2 (FLK2), each carrying 40 credits. These modules provide a comprehensive understanding of substantive and procedural law, covering topics such as contract law, tort, criminal law, property law, business law, and dispute resolution. They aim to develop students’ ability to apply legal knowledge to real-world client problems, laying a solid foundation for the external SQE1 assessment.The third core module, SQE2: Legal Skills, also worth 40 credits, introduces students to the range of legal skills assessed in the SQE2 exam. It helps students begin developing their practical legal abilities, such as client interviewing, legal research, advocacy, and drafting. While the module does not replace the full SQE2 preparation, it gives students a strong initial grounding and supports the transition into qualifying work experience.Students then choose between two optional 60-credit modules: the Research Project or the Reflective Portfolio. The Research Project allows students to explore a legal topic in depth, developing skills in legal research, critical analysis, and academic writing. The Reflective Portfolio, alternatively, encourages students to document and reflect on their learning journey, focusing on skill development and preparation for legal practice. Both options provide valuable opportunities to build transferable skills such as written communication, self-evaluation, and analytical reasoning.Altogether, this course structure combines legal knowledge, practical skills training, and personal development. It prepares students not only for the SQE assessments and qualifying work experience but also equips them with the intellectual tools and professional habits necessary for long-term success in the legal field.
