COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM program in Governance and Devolution offers students a comprehensive understanding of constitutional, legal, and governance frameworks, with flexibility to tailor the degree to individual interests and career goals. The core component of the program is a dissertation, allowing students to undertake an in-depth research project on a topic of their choice. In addition, a wide range of optional modules covers diverse areas of law, governance, and policy. These include specialized legal subjects such as insurance law, international sales law, comparative corporate governance, world trade law, commercial arbitration, environmental and climate change law, intellectual property including copyright and trade marks, money laundering and financial crime, admiralty law, carriage of goods by sea, international energy law, and international investment law. Students can also explore human rights, global justice, and international criminal law, as well as law in societal contexts such as medicine, law and society. Modules on constitutional and governance issues include the law of devolution in Wales, constitutionalism and governance, and European law and governance. Further options allow study of contemporary Welsh politics, including institutions, political behaviour, and public policy. This flexibility ensures that graduates develop advanced knowledge of legal frameworks, devolution, governance, and policy, preparing them for careers in law, government, policy-making, international organisations, and research.
