COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and Sociology BSc Econ program provides an interdisciplinary approach to understanding political and social life, combining insights from both fields to develop a broad set of analytical, research, and communication skills. In the first year, students build a foundation in both subjects, taking core modules in social science research, sociology, and key ideas in social science, alongside optional modules in political science, international relations, political thought, and government. In the second year, students continue with an equal split of credits between politics and sociology, studying core modules such as contemporary inequalities and social research methods, while selecting from a wide range of optional politics modules covering topics like international relations, EU politics, political psychology, environmental politics, and modern political thought, alongside sociological perspectives and social theory. The final year allows students to further specialise and tailor their degree to their interests and career aspirations, again with an equal credit split. Students may choose from advanced politics modules including global governance, cybersecurity, populism, and public policy, while sociology modules explore areas such as stigma, social theory, decolonising the social sciences, and contemporary social issues. Throughout the program, students benefit from personalised guidance from tutors, developing both theoretical understanding and practical skills applicable to careers in government, research, public policy, and social analysis.
