COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Science BSc program provides a flexible, interdisciplinary approach to studying human behaviour, society, and policy across a variety of social science disciplines, including Criminology, Education, Psychology, Sociology, Social Analytics, and Social Policy. In the first year, students take five core modules introducing key ideas, research methods, and essential skills to succeed in higher education, alongside an optional module to explore personal interests. Personal tutors support students in transitioning to university life and planning their studies. In the second year, students build on this foundation with a core social research methods module and a selection of optional modules, allowing them to create either a specialist pathway or an interdisciplinary combination. Opportunities exist for credit-bearing placements, and students may consider a four-year program incorporating a professional work placement or study abroad. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge through a 40-credit dissertation project, developing skills in research design, data collection, and analysis under academic supervision. The remaining 80 credits are taken from a wide range of optional modules, enabling students to tailor their degree to their career aspirations and interests. Graduates develop strong analytical, research, and communication skills applicable to careers in public policy, social research, education, social services, and other fields requiring a nuanced understanding of society and human behaviour.
