COURSE CURRICULUM

The three-year BSc in Psychology is structured to provide a progressive and comprehensive understanding of human behaviour, combining theoretical knowledge with practical research skills. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of psychology, including scientific thinking, core subject areas, and basic research methodology through practicals and research design teaching. Core modules cover topics such as psychological research, introduction to psychology, language and memory, biological psychology, individual differences, and thinking about human behaviour. In the second year, the program delves deeper into key areas of psychology, including developmental psychology, perception, attention and action, thinking, emotion and consciousness, social psychology, mental health and clinical psychology, alongside further training in research skills and statistical analysis. This stage emphasizes practical experience and the application of theory to experimental work. In the final year, students undertake a supervised research project, providing the opportunity to conduct independent research under the guidance of academic staff. Alongside the project, students choose from a range of optional modules aligned with staff research interests, allowing exploration of specialised topics such as animal learning and cognition, neuroimaging, decision making, forensic psychology, human factors, and evidence-based health psychology. The degree equips graduates with critical thinking, research expertise, and practical skills applicable to diverse careers in psychology, health, and related fields.
