COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Physics with Medical Physics degree provides a strong foundation in core physics while focusing on applications in healthcare. In the first year, students study essential physics principles, including mechanics, electricity, magnetism, waves, quantum mechanics, computational skills, experimental physics, and an introduction to medical physics, forming a 120-credit core designed to develop both theoretical understanding and practical skills. Year two builds on this foundation, deepening knowledge in fields such as thermal and statistical physics, optics, condensed matter, nuclear medicine, biophysics, and scientific programming, alongside practical laboratory work and real-world problem solving. The curriculum integrates core physics concepts with medical physics applications, giving students a well-rounded and applied understanding of the subject. In the final year, students undertake a 30-credit research project in medical physics, allowing them to specialise in areas such as Doppler ultrasound, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, diagnostic radiology, or physiological measurement. Core modules in the final year also include atomic and nuclear physics, particle physics, radiation protection, non-ionising radiation, and radiotherapy physics. Students can further tailor their degree with optional modules covering topics such as computational physics, solid-state physics, environmental physics, magnetic resonance imaging, and laser physics. Graduates emerge with a strong combination of analytical, research, and practical skills, ready for careers in healthcare, research, and technology.
