COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics for the Modern World BSc provides a contemporary approach to mathematics, combining foundational theory with applications relevant to modern challenges. In the first year, students study core modules in computing and foundations of mathematics, developing essential skills in logical reasoning, problem solving, and mathematical analysis. These modules establish a solid base in pure and applied mathematics while introducing contemporary applications of the subject. In the second year, students build on this foundation with modules in operational research, enhancing their analytical thinking, problem-solving techniques, and ability to approach complex, real-world problems. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to their interests, focusing on areas that strengthen their mathematical and practical skills. The final year emphasizes modern applications of mathematics and how it can be used to address global challenges, such as sustainability, finance, technology, and data-driven decision-making. A wide range of optional modules is available, covering topics like algebra, topology, differential geometry, fluid dynamics, stochastic processes, statistical modelling, time series, algorithms, optimisation, game theory, and applied mathematics.
