COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the Financial Mathematics (BSc) degree, students study core modules that build a solid foundation in both pure and applied mathematics, including differential equations, geometry, linear algebra, probability and statistics. They also begin to explore financial topics through modules such as Financial Markets and Corporate Financial Management, alongside optional choices in statistics, computing and operational research. Much of the first year is shared across other mathematics degrees, allowing flexibility to transfer if desired. In the second year, students deepen their mathematical knowledge through core modules in calculus of several variables, linear algebra, operational research, econometrics and investment management, while broadening expertise through optional modules in areas such as real analysis, number theory, vector calculus and computational statistics. These module selections shape the opportunities and specialisation available in the final year. In the third year, there are no compulsory modules, allowing students to tailor their learning to personal interests and career goals. A wide range of advanced topics is available, including stochastic processes, multivariate data analysis, behavioural finance, optimisation, time series, algorithms, artificial intelligence and game theory. Students also have the opportunity to undertake a research project, helping develop valuable transferable skills such as independent research, communication and professional presentation.
