COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biochemistry BSc program provides a comprehensive foundation in the biological sciences while emphasizing the molecular basis of life. In the first year, students study core topics including biological chemistry, cell biology, microbiology, genetics, evolution, anatomy and physiology, animal and plant biology, and ecology, alongside developing practical laboratory and academic skills. Year two allows for greater specialization, focusing on advanced laboratory techniques, data analysis, scientific communication, experimental design, literature review, statistical analysis and critical evaluation. Students choose from optional modules in areas such as genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, neuroscience, developmental biology, ecology, and disease, tailoring their learning to their interests and career aspirations. The third year immerses students in research-led teaching and independent study, culminating in a substantial final-year project where they investigate a topic in depth under the guidance of academic supervisors. Core modules include synthetic biology, protein engineering, and genes to genomes, while optional modules allow further specialization in areas such as infection biology, systems biology, neurobiology, disease mechanisms, plant science, and regenerative medicine. Across all years, the program combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, equipping students with critical thinking, research, analytical, computational and communication skills, preparing them for careers in biotechnology, healthcare, research or further academic study.
