COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Banking and Finance program begins with a foundation in core economic principles, mathematics and statistics in the first year. Students study microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, responsible banking and equity trading, alongside developing professional skills and engaging in practical projects such as team-based economics work and simulated trading in a dedicated 65-terminal trading room. This combination builds a solid understanding of economic models, financial markets and analytical techniques. In the second year, students advance their knowledge with modules in money, banking and finance, macroeconomic and microeconomic theory, and econometrics, applying mathematical and statistical tools to economic data and real-world problems. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as corporate finance, law of commerce, financial markets and economic history, tailoring their learning to career interests. In the final year, students focus on applied and advanced topics, choosing from a wide range of optional modules such as financial derivatives, international finance, security analysis, behavioural economics, risk management, corporate strategy and advanced econometrics. Emphasis is placed on evaluating competing models, testing theories empirically and developing decision-making skills. Across the three years, students gain a comprehensive understanding of banking and finance, combining technical expertise with analytical, critical and practical skills for careers in financial services, consultancy, government or further study.
